Vacation Bible School is one of the best summer activities for your kids. VBS is a church-sponsored kids program that usually runs for a week, and often during a portion of the day like mornings or evenings.

Most Vacation Bible School programs are FREE. As you break the bank with summer vacations, sports tournaments in different states, and swimming lessons, here is a kid-approved activity that doesn’t cost a thing.
Unless mom or dad take advantage of the kid-free days to go shopping 🙂
Good for the Soul
One of my good friends recalls the story of her friend inviting her to VBS. She tells me that she first believed in Jesus there. Awesome!
Kids need clarity about their God-given identity, about all things working out for good, about peace in Jesus their Savior, about grace and mercy and love. VBS teaches Bible stories that change lives! Children will meet Jesus there!

Church shopping? Check out the churches offering VBS and send your kids. They can check it out for you! Of course, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes experience as well.
On the other hand, you probably have friends and neighbors looking for a church. VBS is a great way to invite them to register their children at your church.
Faith and Fun!
Okay, sometimes church can be a bit stuffy for kids. “Susie, sit still!” mom says 100 times on Sunday morning. “Billy, be quiet” dad demands. VBS invites kids to be loud, be energetic, run, sing, play and all kinds of fun stuff.
And, every bit of it is geared toward Bible learning and growing closer to Jesus.
Parents Get a Break
Okay, sometimes parents need a break from their own kids, right? Rather than hiring a babysitter, just drop them off at VBS and go out for a picnic, a bike ride, a brunch date, or if you’re really romantic head home and clean the house without kids getting in your way.
PRAYER: Jesus, bless all VBS programs this summer. Show up and show your grace to children everywhere through the Bible accounts of your truth and grace. Amen.
