When it comes to works of art, there are copies and there are signed originals. Which is more valuable? Signed originals!
An original work that contains the signature of its artist is not forged or faked. It is the real deal. The artist’s signature is saying two things.
- This belongs to me, and I can do what I want with it, and
- This does not belong to anyone else, and whatever anyone else does with this—if not authorized by me—is invalid (and perhaps illegal).
Are you a believer? Rejoice today that you are God’s masterpiece. You are his work of art! How do I know that? Because the Bible says that “when you believed” God “marked” you with a “seal” and that you are “God’s possession.”
God’s signature. On you.
You belong to God and whatever anyone else thinks about you, tells you, or does to you—if not authorized by God—is invalid. God owns the rights to you, and has “included you” in his promises which guarantee “your salvation.”
“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13,14).
PRAYER: Dear God, you are my divine Designer, Creator and Savior. What great value I have now, and a certain future inheritance in heaven. Strengthen my faith to be more joyfully secure, owned by you. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Spend time meditating on Ephesians 1:3-10. Identify one action, promise, or character trait of God in each verse that strengthens your faith in “the gospel of your salvation.”
