One morning earlier this week, a humid haze shrouded my front yard. It filtered the early morning sunrise into graying tones of orange. It made me think of these words of God, “I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you” (Isaiah 44:22).
It then became a beautiful, clear, summer day of sunshine. My front yard would look different when I pull in the driveway for the evening. The vibrant colors of the landscape and the grass greened after a little rain will welcome my return.
A change in the weather can really change a person’s outlook, can’t it? And if that’s what God (not mother nature, sorry) can do to you with the weather … well … it gets even better!
Think of the billions of tiny vapor droplets in a cloud of morning mist, and God sweeps them away with a little sunshine and breeze. Think of the numerous mistakes you’ve made, promises you’ve broken, and words you’ve regretted. God sweeps them away “like the morning mist.”
God redeemed you when he claimed you as his own through the saving work of Jesus Christ.
Now it clears up for you to see your Redeemer and return to him without a cloud of sin hanging over your conscience. He waits eagerly. To change your outlook yet again.
PRAYER: Today is another gift of your grace, dear Lord God. Brighten my faith and my hope with your clear promises, and lead me on the path of repentant, resurrected living. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Spend a little time reading Isaiah chapter 44. God takes on idols, and proves that he can do for us what they will never do for us. And he provides some powerful promises.
