John is seeing a vision from God as he is scribbling down notes, penning the book of Revelation. He is watching a grand celebration honoring Jesus.
“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!’” (Revelation 5:13).
The living creatures offering worship are joined by inanimate objects like mountains and palm trees and rivers and rocks. Do you see how this worship includes the whole creation? In heaven. On the earth and under the earth.
Everything everywhere gives all glory to Jesus, the Lamb of God. The Lamb’s blood was not sacrificed for bluebonnets or squirrels but they worship him. The Lamb didn’t rise from the dead for tornadoes or volcanoes but they worship him.
If these magnificent and mighty elements of creation worships Jesus, then certainly humans created and redeemed by Jesus have more reason to worship!
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, your creative powers are matched only by your saving acts of redemption. You are worthy of worship from all creation, including me. Receive my praise today, and may it be higher and more emphatic than any praise you receive from this created world. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Read Psalm 148, a song of praise from creation, and from redeemed people.
