Defogging Your Windshield. Are You Doing It Wrong?

Pastor DaronCrossLife Blog

Most of us know how to deal with a windshield that has fog or ice on the outside. Turn on the defrost, crank the heat, and when there is no longer hard ice, use the wipers.

Easy. Got it. Done it.

But what if your windshield is foggy on the inside? Some people say use the heat, others say use the AC, what do you say?

Recently Kassie Tweeted: “I’m 36 and still don’t know if I should use heat or AC when my windshield fogs up … adulting is hard.” Comments were varied and viral. So what’s the best approach?

When your windshield is foggy on the inside in cold weather, you want to turn on the heat and the air conditioning.Yes, you can do both at once. If you have a dial that adjusts temperature, put it on the hottest setting. Then look around for a button that turns the AC on or off. Click it so it’s on.*

So how about a life that is foggy on the inside? Your mind and heart are cloudy and not clearing up. You’re uncertain. Looking for direction. Confused about God’s ways. Needing answers.

Some people listen to more podcasts, others see a therapist, others Tweet or post for feedback. Not bad to connect with a community. The collective wisdom of others, however, isn’t as wise as God’s advice.

“Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God” (John 11:40)?

Want to better see God? Better understand his ways? Pray more specifically and recognize his answers? Match your morals and character to those of Jesus Christ? Look for—and find—true joy and peace?

There’s a clear answer from Jesus. Believe. Trust him. Let go. Surrender. Stop resisting his path and purpose.

You might think that this leads to disaster. Yes, you can see it! Ah, but that’s a hallucination of sinful, foolish driving with a foggy windshield. Before driving, trust in God’s words and ways. When you do, you will see.

PRAYER: There’s so much I can’t see, Lord. I feel foggy. Where this is my own limited faith and vision, forgive me and clear me by your grace. Lead me to trust in your words and ways, and then find that I can see better when I look at you. Amen.
