How are you feeling about the 2020 election? Disappointed? Eager? Hopeless? Frustrated?
Then here is something to give you hope, confidence and encouragement about our country. God has voted, and God’s vote counts most.
Rejoice in this
God’s candidate for the supreme ruler of our country is his own Son, Jesus Christ. And he lives and reigns forever!
These words in the Bible might become especially meaningful to us this Christmas, but in Walmart fashion I’m going to bring out Christmas joy extremely early this year. Rejoice in this:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:6,7).
The government is not on the shoulders of our president, or any other power. It is on the shoulders of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
Where is your trust?
How many Christians have been saved by our baptism, when we were united with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and adopted as a child of God? All of us!
How many of us have been eternally saved from sin, death and the devil by our government? None of us.
Where is your trust?
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save” (Psalm 146:3). Today, put your trust in our Savior God whose role and rule in our country hasn’t changed, and never will.
PRAYER: Dear God, your ways are superior to my ways, my opinions and my vote. You govern the entire world, including this country. Help me today to focus my faith on your kingdom, your power, and your glory. Thank you for the freedom of elections in our land. Guide our nation. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Read Isaiah 9:6,7. Meditate on each of the names ascribed to Jesus Christ. Which is most meaningful to you today? Who can you tell about it?
