When was the last time you used a Band-Aid? What part of your body needed healing?
Did you scrape a knee or elbow? Cut a finger? Slice open your hand? Band-Aids help those kind of wounds, protecting them from infection. Healing begins.
But when you had a tummy ache, did you put a Band-Aid on your belly button? When you got the migraine, did you slap a Band-Aid on your forehead? What about the times you feel sad, lonely, worried or brokenhearted, does it help to peel open a Band-Aid and stick it on your chest right over your heart?
Silly, right? Who does that? Band-Aids help heal wounds on the outside, not on the inside.
That’s why we need Jesus. Better than Band-Aids, Jesus heals us on the inside. The shame. The fear. The confusion. Broken hearts. Burdened minds. Big problems. No need for a trip to the bathroom closet for the box of Band-Aids.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
No wounds will ever be more intense, painful, or impactful than the wounds Jesus suffered at his death. By his wounds, Jesus paid the price of justice of our sins, shortcomings, bad decisions and foolish mistakes. “By his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
That’s deep inside each of us. Jesus heals there.
So now go live a healthy spiritual life. Be more vibrant and joyful. Forgive yourself because Jesus forgives you first. Forgive others because Jesus forgives them, too. Help others heal from their wounds by showing them the love of Jesus in your words and behavior.
Want a reminder about this? Go get a Band-Aid today and stick it on the back of your hand. Then draw a cross on it.
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, you are Healer and you are better than a Band-Aid. I need your healing on the inside. By your wounds, I have been healed, Lord. Help me help others heal by showing them your love. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Go get a Band-Aid today and stick it on the back of your hand. Then draw a cross on it. This is your reminder.
