Hot Wheels and Jesus

“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again” (2 Corinthians 5:14,15).

Remember the Hot Wheels? They’re still hot. Kids love zooming them down the plastic tracks so that they smash into the cat, speed under the couch or soar off the second floor loft.

It all starts by putting the Hot Wheels car on the track. When I was a kid we had  to just plop the car on the highest point of the track and let go. Now they have launchers!

Either way, if you walk up with your Hot Wheels car and just hold it by your chin and let it go, it’ll smash onto the floor. Do it again, same result. Why?

Because a Hot Wheels car is designed for the Hot Wheels track. Put it on the track and it goes. Fast and straight!

Are you staying on track with Jesus?

Sometimes we don’t even start the day headed his direction. Sometimes you jump the curb and take a damaging detour. Sometimes you slam on the brakes and skid out of control. Sometimes you speed ahead too fast.

That’s why Jesus gives you his curbs. You know, the sides of the track that keep hot wheels from crashing? Jesus’ curbs are his commands. Listen to them. Bump up against them and let them keep you on track.

But what good are curbs without a track? If all you have are the side rails, there’s nothing to hold up the car. No good.

Jesus is your track. He holds you up. He keeps you going. He is steadily, clearly, always in front of you no matter what.

So keep going forward, on track with Jesus!

PRAYER: Keep me on track, Jesus. Keep me within the curbs of your commands, and be my track to keep moving forward. Amen.

FURTHER MEDITATION: Could you say that Jesus didn’t need curbs in his life one still stayed on track? Could you say that he jumped off the track to save us? Find biblical support for your answers.
