How romantic is God?
Well, God designed love and he practices is perfectly. God does more than purchase statements of love printed on a Valentine’s Day card that will be tossed in the trash in a week. He promises, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).
God woos sinners with perfect and passionate love. He draws you into his forgiveness, his power, his life.
There’s even an entire book of the Bible written about the romantic, intimate, passion of God—a beautiful piece of poetry called the Song of Songs.
God has also promised this: “I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God” (Exodus 20:5).
When other loves attract your interest, he burns with jealousy. “I am the Lord your God.” When you flirt with idols thinking that they can do a better job than God, he burns with jealousy. “I am the Lord your God.”
Like a mama bear protecting her cubs, God can turn ferocious—because he doesn’t want to lose you. He will lash out at his competition. He will even let loose with a few words of warning for you, because he’ll do anything it takes to keep you close.
Do you see his passion? Sense his desire? Understand his sheer delight? God wants to be in a relationship with you that is stronger than any other.
PRAYER: I love you, God. And I want my love for you to match your love for me. Full of deep desire. Ultimate. Passionate. Unconditional. Take my heart today and renew our relationship as I seek your heart of love. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Pray for an open door today to share one of the verses above, or this entire blog, with someone who needs God’s love. Post a reminder or two so that you don’t forget.
