Husband Calling Is Real

“Roy! Roy?! Can you hear me? You get yourself in here right now. Come on! You know you’re gonna be late again and you know that I want to get there on time. Roy! Roy?! Rrrroooyyy!”

Wives, does this sound familiar? Do you need some tips on getting your husband’s attention? Then check out the husband calling contest at the Iowa State Fair.

A video of the cute competition is going viral. Nice, midwestern, down-to-earth friendliness and fun is attractive, of course. More attractive, though, is the struggle women share when it comes to getting a man’s attention.

Wouldn’t it be nice, ladies, if you didn’t have to yell, yodel or use a man’s middle name to let him know he needs to listen?

Jesus once judged a God calling contest. People were trying to get God’s attention, because they didn’t think he was listening.

“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:7,8).

A good man knows what his lady needs, even if she doesn’t say it. A better man actually acts on it.

So let your God calling in prayer sound less like an Iowan calling her inattentive husband, and more like faith, love and appreciation for God’s attentiveness.

PRAYER: God, thank you for paying attention, more than I often realize or understand. Settle my soul today, confident in your care. Bless families, marriages and the communication needed between men and women. Amen.

EVANGELISM ACTION: Share the video with a friend who needs Jesus, and ask them if they think of prayer in that way.
