Hymn of the Holy Spirit

Pastor DaronCrossLife Blog

Here are some ways that God the Holy Spirit works in your life:

Helps you see Jesus. Opens up your eyes.

Fills you with Christ. Opens up your heart.

Wakes you to God’s Word. Opens up your ears.

Guides your speaking. Opens up your mouth.

Leads you through the great unknown. Guides your feet.

Becomes your light and your path. Shows the way.

Shepherds your soul. Leads you to heaven.

Speaks as a clear voice in you during thunder or stillness.

Here are some ways your faith does its divinely graced work in response:

You find mercy.

You share stories and speak words of grace in truth.

You follow him—with all you are and all you have.

You trust.

You lean.

You hold.

You cling.

The Bible calls the work of the Holy Spirit “sanctification.” It means “set apart, chosen and assigned for a special purpose.”

The Holy Spirit has already succeeded in his work—in you—because of the accomplished, justifying work of Jesus Christ who lived, died and rose again. Jesus gives divine authority and power to his Spirit’s work in you.

The Holy Spirit will continue to succeed in his work—in you—because of his persevering, constant, patient, supportive, enlightening, energizing, exciting activity while living in you and all believers. It began at your baptism.

“You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11).

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, you are my breath of life. You are my holiness and fill me with all of Jesus Christ. I praise you for mercifully taking up residence in me. Move me. Set my faith on fire. Guide me to live and speak and worship and obey with all I am, and all I have. Amen.

FOR YOUR PLAYLIST: This intimate performance of the song Hymn of the Holy Spirit by Christian artist Pat Barrett provides all the content for the two sections above: what the Holy Spirit does, and how you in faith respond. The song is followed by meditative music singing “I will follow” in beautiful harmony. Spend some quiet time with it today, all 9 minutes!
