My God is bigger than ________.
If you can’t fill in the blank with the word “everything,” then you have a puny god.
Is your God bigger than football?
Is your God bigger than ear infections?
Is your God bigger than your job, or finding a job?
Is your God bigger than Netflix?
Is your God bigger than your opinion?
Is your God bigger than your past?
Is your God bigger than your fears and worries?
Is your God bigger than your dreams?
Is your God bigger than you being healthy, fit and beautiful?
Is your God bigger than you being sick, out of shape, and feeling ugly?
Is your God bigger than your kids?
Is your God bigger than a car accident?
Is your God bigger than interest rates, mortgages and credit card debt?
Is your God bigger than your faith?
Is your God bigger than Jack Daniels, Jose Cuervo, and Captain Morgan?
Is your God bigger than your level of knowledge, wisdom or GPA?
Is your God bigger than your marriage or your singleness?
Is your God bigger than Facebook, Instagram and TikTok?
Is your God bigger than you?
Then why do you love, serve and spend money on any of these things more than God? What you get out of it is much, much less than what God can give you.
Stop settling for a puny god. Start excelling and living a more fulfilling life with this God. “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen” (Romans 11:36).
Substitute your puny god in that great statement of glory, and it just doesn’t work. “For from ______ and through ________ and for ________ are all things. To _______ be the glory …” No. No. No. Not possible. Not even desirable. Doesn’t work. Can’t work.
Only God is the central character of existence. Not your boss. Not your spouse. Not you. Only God. So life isn’t about what you want, what you like, what makes you happy, setting your own rules for life, finding your own truth. Because you are not central and God is.
You orbit around him. All things do. You cannot escape his gravity or his grace. He is the biggest. So live like it today, and see how that changes things.
PRAYER: Dear God, you are bigger than all of the puny gods I run to because they promise me the easy way. You can give me so much more than they can. So I want my life to be about you. Because you’re definitely bigger than I am. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Do you know the story of Jonah, or Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden? They tried to run from God, and hide from God. What did they discover?
