Notes And Next Steps
John 19:16-18 + Part 2 of the series “The Greatest Name"
Why the cross?
They make a shameful statement by nailing Jesus to a cross and positioning it between two criminals.
As if it’s not enough that they shamed Jesus and we shame Jesus, his own Father shamed him even more!
The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all … It was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer … the Lord makes his life a guilt offering. (Isaiah 53:6,10)
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
God’s blood saves us. (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:20; Revelation 1:5)
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)
