Sometimes when we say “No” God says “Go!” But he gives us more than a strategic command. He attaches a super promise. Would you like a few more wins in your life?
“The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” …“I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites” (Judges 6:12,16).
Courage isn’t always popular, except with God.
“You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me’” (Judges 7:2).
Courage works when we have less, so that God can do more.
“If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp” (Judges 7:10,11).
Courage is not the absence of fear, but the conviction that God is more important than fear.
When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, “Get up! The Lord has given the Midianite camp into your hands” (Judges 7:15).
Courage worships God not just after the victory, but before the battle.
SPIRITUAL NEXT STEPS
Sometimes “less is more.” How did this prove to be true in Gideon’s story? How is it proving to be true in our CrossLife story, or in your personal experience?
Self-confidence says, “This is important to me. I can do it.” Courage from God says, “This is more important than me. Only God can do it, and I get to help.” What is something you’re afraid about in your life right now, and how does the difference between self-confidence and courage help you approach it in a new way?
