LOVE HAS NO CEILING

In this less than perfect world, Jesus perfectly deals with the problems sin causes and with sin itself, so that we can be filled with joy.

Notes and Next Steps
Mark 2:1-12 + Part 5 of the series "Jesus Gives Us Joy"

Jesus deals not just with the short-term consequences of sin but also the eternal ones.

[People] gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. (Mark 2:2)

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” (Mark 2:5)

Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. (Psalm 32:1)

Jesus removes the eternal consequences of sin by forgiving it.

“Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’?” (Mark 2:9)

“Pick up your mat, and go home.” (Mark 2:11)

In this whole scene, where do you see yourself?

For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)

SPIRITUAL NEXT STEP

In your circle of friends, who needs to be lowered down in front of Jesus for forgiveness and healing? What “roof” needs to be torn off? What can you do this week to move that process forward?

  1. In your circle of friends, who needs to be lowered down in front of Jesus for forgiveness and healing? What “roof” needs to be torn off? What can you do this week to move that process forward?
  2. What parts of your life are on the “injury list?” What do you need from Jesus, and from others in your group, on your journey towards wholeness?
  3. “Jesus is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). What are some of your “low ceilings” that Jesus wants to change?
  4. Where do you find greater joy — in being helped, or in helping others? Pray for opportunities to increase your joy this week.
