MARY'S CHRISTMAS

This week, Cara and I are going to page through family photo albums and look at boxes and boxes of family pictures and home videotapes we’ve collected over the years. We’re going to store some of them digitally, to preserve memories. Why? Because memories shape us. With Mary the mother of Jesus, we treasure the memories of Christmas because they shape us and our world for another year, and beyond.

Notes And Next Steps

Luke 2:19 + Part 4 of the series “The Christmas Option"

“Mary did you know that your baby boy would someday walk on water? Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? The child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you?”

“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior … for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him from generation to generation … He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.” (Luke 1:46-52)

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19)

Memories shape us.

I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. (Philippians 4:11)

Because God is God, he is going to be puzzling to you.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. (Romans 8:28)

CROSSTALK

          A. Mary Did You Know? by Michael English
          B. Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant
          C. A Baby Changes Everything by Faith Hill
          D. Be Born in Me by Francesca Battistelli
          E. Other
        2. BIBLE STUDY: Enjoy “Mary’s Prayer” written by Christian author Max Lucado, and let’s talk about these parts:
          F. “Your tiny hands are reserved for a leper’s open wound … a widow’s weary tear, to claw the ground of Gethsemane.” What else did Jesus’ hands do that makes him such a beautiful Savior?
          G. “O eyes that will see hell’s darkest pit and witness her ugly prince … sleep, please sleep; sleep while you can.” What does this mean?
          H. “Lie still, mouth from which eternity will speak.” Jesus has shared with us some of what has happened in eternity before our world began!
          I. “Rest, tiny feet. For millions will follow in your steps.” How important was it that Jesus die more than point to the way, but that he walked the way?
