MOVING ON FROM YOUR PAST
How do you move on from your painful past?
Notes and Next Steps
John 4:4-28 + Part 5 of the series "God’s Living Water"
You might feel thirsty in your heart and soul if …
So many of our thirsts have one thing in common; they have something to do with your past.
What was Jesus’ Promise:
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.”
Why was this promise hard to believe for this woman?
She was a Samaritan.
She was a woman.
She had a past.
How do we know Jesus’ promise applies to you?
Jesus is your friend who knows you and wants you to know that you are loved and forgiven.
SPIRITUAL NEXT STEP
Choose a consistent time each day to read God’s Word. It doesn’t need to be long. 10 minutes is a great start if this isn’t already a habit. If you’re already doing this, find another time during the day when you can pause from your tasks and remind yourself of something you learned from Scripture earlier in the day.
Discussion Questions
- Identify someone in the world who might feel the same way the woman at the well did (alone, ashamed, lost). Pray for them. Then discuss some ways to connect them with Jesus. Have someone specific in mind? Reach out to them and see if they’d like to join you for coffee or lunch.
- It’s very difficult for people to admit their sins to anyone. Yet the Bible commands us to do this very thing because there are so many benefits – “Confess your sins to each other, so that you may be healed.” How can you help your church become a place where people don’t need to be afraid of their sins?
- Pray that all who are struggling with guilt will find the truth that they are forgiven in Christ.
