It could have been a very merry, holly jolly Christmas for Joseph and Mary. But it by faith they discovered it was so much more.
The first Christmas was just as God intended: a miracle, a work of perfect, heavenly grace hidden behind imperfect, earthly circumstances.
For 2019, industry experts expect American holiday spending to total more than $200 billion.
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. (Titus 2:11)
Live upright and godly lives … [as] a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. (Titus 2:12,14)

- Family project: Share Christmas wish lists with each other, and talk about the reason we give gifts. Compare the giving of gifts to each other with God giving his gift of Jesus to us.
- Study: Read the Christmas story in Luke 2:1-20. Take notes where you see any circumstances that weren’t ideal for Joseph and Mary. Secondly, note the joyful obedience of Joseph, Mary and the shepherds.
- Kids:Use your Message Notes from today and teach your family this week about the Gift of Christmas.
- Witness: Invite a friend to church next Sunday for our children’s Christmas program.
