THE GREAT RESPONSIBILITY

I’m lost and found for the lost I will find.

Notes And Next Steps

Luke 15:1-7; Matthew 28:18-20 + Part 4 of the series “Invite Your One"

Shouldn’t the church know and practice our mission even better than commercial retailers?

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” … “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?” (Luke 15:2,4)

Jesus’ mission statement: “to seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)

  1. Jesus doesn’t wait for you to come to him; he comes to you.
  2. Jesus doesn’t expect you to achieve all kinds of good work to make up for your sins.

Our mission statement: “go and make disciples.” (Matthew 28:19)

“When he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’” (Luke 15:5,6)

We are here to connect people to Jesus and help believers live a more fulfilling life.

Commitment to a church is necessary for Great Commission obedience … Committed members … desire to share the gospel consistently … They thrive evangelistically when the church as a whole commits to proclaiming Christ together. It gives them a plan and a system of accountability” ( Rainer, Thom. “Five Reasons to Be ‘All In’ at Church.’ https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/5-reasons-all-in-church/. August 17, 2022).

Discussion Questions

  1. Use a prayer card as you pray for and prepare to Invite Your One. Use breakfast tacos and Kona Ice, too :-)
  2. Shouldn’t the church know and practice our mission even better than commercial retailers? Some argue that church shouldn’t operate like a business. For a biblical response, read Luke 16:1-9; Exodus 18:21-23; Mark 1:38; Mark 4:13,14; Luke 5:1-3; Acts 6:2-4. What dynamics that we see in successful businesses are blessings from God for his kingdom work?
  3. What as the point of the copy machine video about making disciples? How did it connect with you visually?
  4. Agree or Disagree  Unbelievers lost without faith need Jesus more than believers already found by grace.
