My Hope Is in You

Pastor DaronCrossLife Blog

I meet with You and my soul sings out

As your word throws doubt far away

I sing to You and my heart cries

“Holy! Hallelujah, Father, You’re near!”

There are two types of doubting in the life of a believer. The doubt of disagreement insists that God has it all wrong. It is full of pride and self-centered opinion. It assumes you know better than God. It is like yelling through a closed, slammed door.

But the doubt of wonderment keeps the door open, even though it hurts, doesn’t have answers, and feels pain and loss. This doubt questions God but doesn’t lecture God. It is full of hope that can’t see but wants to believe.

My hope is in You, Lord

All the day long, I won’t be shaken by drought or storm

A peace that passes understanding is my song

And I sing my hope is in You, Lord.

Yes, there will be storms. Jesus encountered storms. So did his disciples. So will you. But the storms aren’t in charge. They aren’t the boss. They serve the Master, your Savior Jesus. They don’t have the power to shake you unless you let them. They don’t gain power or control from your sins, because your sins have been washed away by the blood of Jesus, the waters of baptism and the strong drink of salvation in holy communion.

I wait for You and my soul finds rest

In my selfishness, You show me grace

I worship You and my heart cries “Glory

Hallelujah, Father, You’re here!”

Waiting is hard for 3-year-olds in the backseat, 30-year-olds wondering if they’ll make the cut after the new company takeover, and 63-year-olds whose doctors don’t know yet what is happening. It means you’re not in control. Selfishness needs control. A worshipful soul releases control to a caring Father full of grace.

One of the favorite worship songs at our church is “My Hope Is in You” by Christian artist Aaron Schust. This song video tells a powerful story why hope matters, and where it comes from. WARNING: The video contains dramatic footage of an emergency room. It also contains real, honest life events where waiting on the Lord is the best—and only—option.

PRAYER: My hope is in you, Lord. Sometimes, I like putting my hope in the powers and pleasures of this world, which stress me out. They’re so unstable. You, Lord, are steady in grace and faithful in your presence. Thank you. My hope is in you, Lord. Amen.

EVANGELISM ACTION: Share the song video with a friend who needs Jesus, perhaps going through a difficult time or experiencing loss.
