Seeing Jesus in Color

What’s it like to see Jesus?

Not with your eyes, but with your faith. How do you know that you’re seeing him clearly?

I know people who say that they see Jesus in a beautiful sunset, or see him in a neighborhood effort of kindness after fire destroys one of their homes. Well, yes, he’s there like he’s everywhere. “With you always” (Matthew 28:20).

But Jesus is Jesus, not the sun, not people, not an expression or feeling. Jesus is a real being, a person, and also God. At the same time. That’s what Christmas was all about. God became human to join us, suffer for us, and save us by suffering holy justice in our place for all our sins, wrongs and guilt.

There he is! Now I see him more clearly. He’s in the manger. On the cross. Risen from the grave. Ruling the world. Listening to prayers and answering them perfectly every time.

How do you know that you’re seeing Jesus clearly (and not just imagining a picture or enjoying a sunset)? It changes you. Like a colorblind person seeing colors for the first time.

The Bible tells us about one man, “when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet” (Mark 5:22). Not normal behavior when you meet a guy. But Jesus isn’t normal. He’s spectacular! He’s vibrant! He’s everything!

What’s it like to be colorblind and see colors for the first time? Watch this video (https://youtu.be/fTpCTDwjHZQ)

When we see Jesus more clearly, we see the entire world differently. The way we interact with people changes. The way we view ourselves and the others is suddenly different. Like this man’s children are antsy and pestering him, he doesn’t notice it. He’s so thrilled at seeing colors, and even seeing his kids.

Open your eyes. See Jesus more clearly by looking for him in his saving works, even as you listen to his saving words. It’ll change you. If it hasn’t, there is still time for you to open your eyes of faith and see. Pray this prayer …

PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I see so many things every day, but none compare to you.  I want to change. I want to be a better person in 2022. I want faith that gives me more confidence and clarity. I want to see you. Open my eyes of faith to believe in you and your saving works. And to see people differently, the way you see them. Amen.

EVANGELISM ACTION: Share the video with a friend who needs Jesus. Tell them that seeing color for the first time changes perspective, like seeing Jesus clearly.
