Think of the difference between getting out of bed refreshed, renewed, and ready to face the day compared to dreading the day ahead and wanting to hide under the covers.
They say, “What a difference a day makes.” Very true. Often a night’s sleep, and just some time and a new sunrise, can change things for the better.
More powerful and positive, however, is finding satisfaction in the unfailing love of God. It doesn’t change with circumstances. God’s love is faithful and forever. It fills your with his mercy, his forgiveness, his healing, his perfect answers to prayer.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:14).
Researchers who study what makes people happy have defined two kinds of happiness: natural happiness and synthetic happiness.
Natural happiness depends on circumstances like good weather or good grades. It spikes quickly and then diminishes quickly too. Your favorite team wins one week and then loses the next week.
Synthetic happiness is made. It’s a choice. A good choice that is a perspective, believing in something deeper for happiness. Like God’s unfailing love. This is a lasting happiness that researchers agree is the better of the two.
So sing for joy! Be glad every day! Whatever happens. Whoever you are. Wherever life takes you. You can be satisfied in God’s unfailing love.
PRAYER: I am so glad, God! Like singing in the shower on a bright, sunny morning, I want to praise you for your faithful love. Every day. I am so satisfied with you. And I believe that by grace, you are satisfied with me. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: What attributes or actions of God, specifically, are satisfying to you today? Meditate on this for at least 5 minutes, and pray with thanks and hope.
