No digital clocks here. Go walk up to a clock on the wall. One with real hands tick-ticking.
What makes the clock tick? A battery! If you take the battery out and this clock stops, will time stop? Will we all freeze? No! Because God makes time move.
Minute to minute. Day to day. Year to year.
You woke up this morning. A new day. Why? Because God’s hands press your heart to beat and your lungs to push air when you’re sleeping deeply without thinking about staying alive (Job 33:4; Isaiah 42:5).
The page has turned on the calendar for another new month and year, even as the page of your past sins has been turned to a new chapter. The future is here, determined more by God’s promises than your past behavior.
The hands of Jesus Christ were stapled to a cross, then raised in blessing and and now reach out to help and heal you. And your kids (Mark 1:31,41; Mark 10:16; Luke 24:50).
The hands of the clock are powerful. As if they are master. They make us age. They make us late. They make us get out of bed.
But even time has a master. Even time has a God. And that God is your Savior. He’s on your side. His hands matter most.
“My times are in your hands.” (Psalm 31:15)
PRAYER: God, happy new year! Happy new day! I’m glad, eager and filled with hope today because my times are in your hands. Creating hands. Crucified hands. Caring and capable hands. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Read the other verses referenced in this blog. Spend 60 seconds on each verse thinking about it and saying a prayer.
