Are you ready to cross paths with a lion? I can tell you right now that you already have. Actually, with at two lions.
Each of us faces a lion known as the devil. “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith” (1 Peter 5:8,9).
The devil is using his lies to scare you away from faith, and if you believe him and let him get between you and Jesus, you’ll end up like most anyone who faces a lion—devoured for lunch.
So pay close attention now to the Bible promising you that another lion crosses your path. This lion is bigger than the first lion. This lion never lies and always tells the truth. This lion knows you even better than the first lion. This lion has battle scars but has never lost a fight, and never will.
God gave a vision to the disciple John and allowed him to see this lion, and then tell us about it in the book of Revelation. “The Lion of the tribe of Judah … has triumphed … a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne” (Revelation 5:5,6).
Jesus is both Lion and Lamb, both king and servant, both warrior and sacrifice. Like a sacrificial lamb, Jesus gave himself as an offering for the sins of the world.
Jesus did the impossible when as God he became human and lived on this earth. Jesus did the impossible when as the immortal God he died. Jesus did the impossible when his perfect, innocent blood shed on the cross paid the price of justice in your place. Jesus did the impossible when he rose from the dead, and now he has taken the throne over all powers, all fears, all impossibilities, and all lions.
He is the real Lion King.
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, be my Lion. When the lies of the devil roar, when fears stalk me in the night or when I’m surrounded by enemies, use your ferocious power. Deliver me from them, and from my own weakness, sin, and small faith. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: How do you resist the devil? What do you do? say? believe?
