You can say with complete confidence that you will be in heaven some day. Because you are not your own.
You can agree to the next step of marriage even though you are only 80% convinced it’s the right thing. Because you are not your own.
You can confess a sinful mistake that you made—and it hurt someone you love—because you are not your own.
You can speak more frequently about Jesus and invite your friend to church. Because you are not your own.
You can give generously to church and charity even though your own investments have been performing poorly. Because you are not your own.
You can tell your boyfriend that you’re not going to have sex before marriage. Because you are not your own.
You can ask for help. Because you are not your own.
You can grow more passionate in worship that is inspiring your soul like never before. Because you are not your own.
You can get baptized. Because you are not your own.
You can chase a dream that will be an adventure for you and some other people who are very important to you. Because you are not your own.
The Bible says, “You are not your own” (1 Corinthians 6:19). You belong to Jesus Christ. By your baptism you are united with his death, and with his resurrection.
He took on your sins. You take on his righteousness. Your thoughts are also his thoughts. His strength is also your strength. You are not alone. He is not alone.
PRAYER: Dear Jesus, thank you for not just being around everywhere, but being in me. I want more of you. More of your thoughts to be my thoughts. More of your strength to be my strength. More of your mercy to be my mercy. Amen.
FURTHER MEDITATION: Read 1 Corinthians 6:12-20. The context is sex. How does “You are not your own” help a person practice sexual purity?
